Institute Spotlight: Kim Kamin

As part of the Institute’s mission to provide educational content and opportunities to engage with industry experts and its members from all over the U.S., the Institute will periodically highlight a member of its faculty. This bi-weekly series will feature all of the domain heads for each Domain of Family Wealth. This week, we’re introducing Kim Kamin, head of the Estate Planning & Legal Issues Domain.

“The Estate Planning & Legal Issues Domain recognizes that the law permeates all aspects of our clients’ lives and, at the end of the day, it is the terms of the trust and other legal documents that will govern how a family and its wealth function.”

Kim describes the Estate Planning & Legal Issues Domain as the lawful bodies and documents that determine the role of families and their wealth.

In her video, Kim explains how the goal within this domain is to help the estate planning process become more integrative and collaborative across the entire advisory team, helping the attorneys be more client centered, rather than just structural or tax centered. However, this is not a static process but rather one that constantly evolves. Some of the current trends within the Estate Planning & Legal Issues Domain include:

  1. The changing structure of families
  2. Trends in aging and longevity
  3. The upcoming great transfer of wealth
  4. Perpetual trusts
