In sync with March’s Monthly Theme, The Language of Wealth, our recent roundtable examined the following: Does the wealth management industry need a new PR campaign? Despite significant philanthropic gifts and contributions to fields such as science, healthcare, and technology, as well as other impactful business ventures by ultra-high-net-worth individuals, the divide between haves and have-nots continues to widen.

We invited members to participate in our recent roundtable, where Tom Burroughes, editor of Family Wealth Report, joined language strategist Michael Maslansky to discuss how firms and family members are thinking about the Language of Wealth, how it may evolve and how capturing stories of wealth creators and beneficiaries might change the greater narrative.

During the roundtable, we discussed:

  • The importance of how wealth and the wealthy are discussed and perceived, focusing on the impact of language and messaging.
  • Societal views on wealth, including stereotypes and challenges faced by wealthy individuals.
  • How media portrayal affects the perception of wealth and the wealthy.
  • The role of financial literacy in understanding wealth and its societal impact.
  • How wealth impacts personal identity and societal views.
  •  Strategies for effectively communicating about wealth to address misconceptions and foster a more nuanced understanding.
